Explore the Microchip PIC18 Explorer Board Available from Mouser Electronics

May 28, 2014 - Mouser Electronics, Inc. is now shipping the PIC18 Microcontroller Explorer Board from Microchip Technology. This low cost development kit supports multiple analog and digital inputs, and includes LED indicators and a high resolution 16x2 LCD display. These features allow developers to quickly evaluate the PIC18 microcontroller and prototype projects based on this device.

The Microchip® PIC18 Explorer Board available from Mouser Electronics is a fully featured evaluation and development kit for the board‑mounted 40MHz  PIC18F8722 8-bit microcontroller (MCU) with 128KBytes of Flash, 3.9k of RAM, 1KBytes of EEPROM and a 10-bit ADC. The board also comes with a Microchip Plug-In Module (PIM) that has an alternate microcontroller, the high performance 48MHz PIC18F87J11. On-board resources include a 10 kΩ potentiometer for the MCU's analog inputs, eight surface mount LED indicators, an analog temperature sensor, and more. A 16 character by two lines alphanumeric LCD display can be used to provide useful information on the status of the PIC18. All analog and digital pinouts on the PIC18 microcontroller are available for input and output on the header pins.

The PIC18 is Microchip's low power, high end 8-bit microcontroller. The core is extremely efficient and includes a single‑cycle 8x8 hardware multiply. Operating voltage range is from 2.0V to 3.6V and has a sleep current of only 20nA, one of the lowest sleep currents in the industry. With plenty of Flash and ROM, four serial ports and five timers, the PIC18F8722 is ideal for TCP/IP enabled embedded systems, as well as instrumentation panels, industrial control, and smart meters.

Sample programs are provided to demonstrate all the on-chip analog and digital features of the PIC18 microcontrollers, along with all necessary hardware.
