Renesas Electronics RAA27997x Automotive HD Link Encoders/Decoders

Renesas Electronics RAA27997x Automotive HD Link Encoders/Decoders features Automotive HD Link (AHL) technology that enables users to deliver high-definition automotive video over low-cost traditional twisted-pair cables and standard connectors that currently support standard-definition video. The RAA279971 AHL encoder and RAA279972 decoder use a modulated analog signal to transmit the video, enabling transmission rates 10x less than required to transmit HD signals digitally. The AHL technology is robust against noise and features a bi-directional control channel that operates independent of the video data and can initialize, program, and monitor the camera module. This allows camera control simultaneously over the same pair of wires (UTP) during video transmission.

The RAA279971 is a high-definition analog video encoder that accepts digital video inputs using a 2-lane MIPI-CSI2, DVP, or a Pseudo BT.656 parallel interface and supports multiple high-definition resolutions up to 720p/60 or 1080p/30. The RAA279971 uses a built-in 10-bit video DAC that encodes the incoming video stream into an analog composite format that is transmitted to the RAA279972 decoder as a single-ended or differential signal over up to 30 meters of coax or twisted pair cables.

The RAA279972 is an HD analog video decoder designed to support single-ended, differential, and pseudo-differential analog composite high-definition AHL video inputs. A high-quality 10-bit video ADC converts the signal to digital, and a proprietary AHL adaptive comb filter separates Luma and Chroma data to output a YUV422 digital video signal over a two-lane MIPI-CSI2 interface, DVP, or a BT.656 parallel interface. The RAA279972 features integrated short-to-battery and short-to-ground detection and image enhancement features, making it an ideal solution for demanding high-resolution automotive camera applications. When paired with the RAA279971 encoder, an analog video link is established over a single wire pair.

Features

  • Supports resolutions from VGA up to 720p/60 or 1080p/30 for flexibility to implement non-standard vertical resolutions (not just the TV video standard 16:9 resolutions)
  • MIPI-CSI2, BT656, and DVP inputs and outputs provide flexible interfaces to support old and new image sensors
  • Requires a 27MHz crystal clock with internal PLLs able to generate the necessary clock frequencies for higher resolutions
  • Can be paired with R-Car Automotive SoCs, RH850 MCUs, automotive PMICs, and analog components

Applications

  • Parking assistance systems
  • Automotive backup camera displays
  • Automotive surround vision camera displays (encoder only)
